At Moffitt Built, the architect Frank Lloyd Wright has always been a huge inspiration for our projects. Mr. Wright was well ahead of his time and his legacy continues on in many minimalist designs in which nature is preserved and incorporated into the space and sustainable development is key. This article gives you a great look at Wright's Utopian community, Usonia, in New York and the incredible designs he incorporated into the area. Take a look at some of the Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired designs in our own communities, too at www.moffittbuilt.com.
...we're craftsman, helping update KC’s finest neighborhoods. Our motto at MOJO Built is letting you know that every remodel we undergo has a unique artistic touch which sets us apart from other remodelers who aim to transform KC area homes into something new. Our latest transformation is located in the Apple Valley subdivision in Overland Park, KS on Rosewood. We look forward to sharing the path with you as we update this home through pictures and excerpts along the way.
Comfort Involves More than Air TemperatureThere are four primary factors affecting human comfort: air temperature, relative humidity, radiant temperature, and air movement. Most people are comfortable when the air temperature is between 70-80 degrees farenheit and when the relative humidity is is between 30-70%. Air movement is less cut-and-dried. A slight breeze from a fan on a hot sunny day can make you feel more comfortable, but a draft in your living room on a cold day will have you running to the thermostat.
Radiant temperature is best explained with a pair of examples. If you sit next to a single-pane window on a cold day, you'll likely feel cold, even if the air temperature is 75 degrees farenheit. Your body heat radiates from your skin to the cooler surface which cools you down. On hot days, the ceiling under a poorly-insulated attic radiates heat making you feel hot, even when the air temperature is comfortable. Moffitt Built knows this basic principle of building science and works with each individual floorplan to maximize proper window placement. |
