Sitting Around the Fire

We've given you fairly regular updates on one of our newest remodel projects located in Apple Valley Estates. We are finishing up and thought a preview photo before the big reveal would be timely. We made sure to preserve a lot of the original charm this house had to offer while bringing it up-to-date in the best way possible for families in today's world.

The photo at left is of the beautiful original fireplace which we have updated with new stone to coordinate with the essence of the home. Located in the main living area of the home, this large long fireplace is a statement piece that will bring the new owners closer together at family gatherings.

Inspirational Architecture

If you look at any of our Moffitt Built homes, it will come as no surprise that a lot of inspiration is drawn from the works of Frank Lloyd Wright. One of his most famous homes in Los Angeles, CA, the Hollyhock Home, has recently been remodeled and we've got a sneak peek! For those of you lucky enough to be in the area, the home can be toured during regular operating hours. For the rest of us, the legacy can be seen in our homes as inspiration.

There's endless choices and this guide can help you figure out which style you like best and the unique details that make it what it is. Some of these categories are new ones for me and some may be home styles you didn't even realize had a categorical name. Check these out and see where your interest lies. It can most definitely help narrow down your choices when it comes to showings or design if you're building a custom home.

Proper Insulation

Building a home is many interesting parts coming together. Some may look completely fascinating while others seem terribly boring. One such task is foam installation. When building a home, proper installation of the foam insulation needs to be placed in the walls to ensure that your home is protected appropriately from the elements. Planning carefully for insulation results in reduced utility bills and superior comfort during throughout the home's lifespan.

To properly insulate a new home, you’ll need to know where to insulate and the recommended R-values for each of those areas. The U.S. Department of Energy has created a Zip Code Insulation Calculator to determine where you need to insulate and the recommended R-values based on your climate, type of heating and cooling system, etc. The calculator also provides cost estimates and a rate of return.

Want to see a Moffitt Built professional craftsman install foam insulation? Check out this video - it's actually very cool to see!
