You're a proud homeowner! Naturally, you want to keep your new home safe and secure. Here are some great reminders from Realty Times for keeping your home protected while you're away on those upcoming Spring Break vacations.
When building a home in Kansas City, you're not just watching the concept of your dream home become a reality, but you're adopting all that this wonderful city has to offer. Kansas City is the City of Fountains, 2nd to Paris, home to wonderful museums like the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, a city with a rich history and strong legacy of jazz culture, an architecturally-impressive city, and one that any foodie can agree has some of the best BBQ around.
KC Magazine recently published a list of "must-try," restaurants in the area and we had to share with you. And there's plenty more where that came from... The International Builders' Show (IBS) took place last week in Las Vegas and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) brought an interesting fact to the table: housing will indeed continue its climb toward higher ground in 2014. Though this is not without its drawbacks, including tight mortgage conditions, rising building material prices, and limited availability in labor and developed lots.
Overall, the NAHB is forecasting 1.15M total housing starts this year, up 24.5% from last year's 928,000 units. Residential remodeling activity is also expected to have a moderate gain over 2013. As a certified Green Builder, keeping green and eco-conscious is of utmost importance to me. Staying conscious of your energy consumption during the winter months and making small easy changes can make a huge difference in those monthly bills.
For example, using your ceiling fan to keep a room warm instead of turning up your thermostat is one easy way to control your energy consumption: adjust your fan to turn clockwise which will pull the cold air up and keep any heat in the room trapped. Check out more green energy tips here. Happy Wednesday! If anyone felt like they've been missing some winter weather, they've certainly been satisfied with the recent snow dump that took over Kansas City...check out some local photos of the pristine conditions below:
...or a villain? In the custom home building business, we take note of incredible masterpieces built for a client's custom home needs. This home, recently listed in Joshua Tree, CA is a fabulous example of just how far one can go with custom home building.
Listed as "the most important architectural house you may have never seen," at a cool $3 million, the house is built on the rocks using concrete, steel, glass, and copper. The 10-acre lot was transformed by architect Kendrick Bangs Kellogg for artist Beverly Doolittle and her husband in the late 1980s, taking a total of 5 years to complete!
