John Moffitt, Jr. grew up in the housing business. His father, John, Sr., was the original developer/partner of Leawood along with John Kroh. In fact, in our lobby, there is a 1948 photo of Mr. Moffitt, Sr. in front of the original Leawood development sales office located at 8000 Lee Blvd. Ever since John, Jr. was just 10 years old, he spent most of his weekends touring construction sites with his father.
When John was 18, he graduated from Pembroke Country Day School and enrolled at the University of Denver. In 1978, John received his Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in real estate and construction management. That Fall, he began building homes in Denver with US Homes, the nation's largest builder at the time. John oversaw the direct construction of over 300 homes in a 3-year period.
In 1981, John moved back to Kansas City to work side by side with his father in the building/development business. Since 1981, John has developed and built homes in Leawood South, The Sanctuary, Heather Ridge, Heather Glen, Falcon Ridge, Cedar Creek, and Leawood Estates. John has also developed the subdivisions of Hazelwood, Heatherglen, and Prairie Villas.
John has served as President of the local KC Home Builder's Association (HBA), as well as the Chairman of the National Custom Homes Builders Committee and is currently a senior board member of both associations. Moffitt Built is proudly recognized as a Certified Green Builder company. John has received the HBA Pick of the Parade and Builder of the Year awards, is an HBA Builder Hall of Fame member, and National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Senior Life Director.
John is an active board member of JDRF (Kansas City Chapter), TV 4 Love Fund, Catholic Education Foundation, and a member of the KCRAR Board of Realtors and lives in Leawood with his family.
